THE POSITION
The City of Franklin Parks Department has a seasonal vacancy for a Program Specialist. Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Responsibilities, generally, include:

TYPICAL DUTIES
• Organizes, schedules and coordinates a variety of recreation activities.

• Researches, develops and proposes recreation programming opportunities; prepares cost estimates and participation requirements.

• Assists in program development through working with independent contractors; identifies trends and opportunities, receives and evaluates proposals, develops contracts.

• Plans, prioritizes, and assigns work of event staff responsible for specific recreational programs and activities.

• Participates in the selection of recreation staff for assigned area; provides or coordinates staff training as needed. Assures compliance by staff of required certifications and licenses.

• Evaluates programs and make recommendations.

• Schedules use of Active/Passive Parks and facilities for activities; including, coordinating activities related to facility rental, processing reservation permits, assessing and collecting fees, and issuing refund checks, as appropriate. Monitors for compliance with laws, rules and regulations.

• Coordinates staff or assists the public in special event planning; identifies facility needs; recommends appropriate event sites, monitors for compliance with laws, rules and regulations.

• Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for providing services; implements policies and procedures.

• Promotes recreation program activities, special events in the community and facilities; assists in the preparation of marketing materials including flyers, news releases, advertising, promotional material, announcements, sponsorship packages. Responds to public inquiries and complaints related to programs and special events to maintain positive public relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma (or GED equivalent) required, supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving recreation programming/services, physical education or a related field desirable. Two (2) years previous experience working with the public. Must possess, or have ability to obtain, a valid Community First Aid and CPR certificate. Other job-related certifications may be required for this position if assigned to different Recreation Sections.
